BET’s 106 & Park To End After 12 Years?

106 & Park will soon be a thing of the past. The BET daily countdown show has been a go-to spot for just about every big name in Hip-Hop and R&B, but has decided to throw in the towel after 12 years on  the air. With the departure of Rocsi Diaz, and Terrece “J” Jenkins, the show was rumored to search for a new pair of  hosts.

The show announced the news Wednesday (Sept. 19), via Twitter. “We sadly announce that on September 28th, 2012, we will air our last episode.” The post was later deleted.

Jenkins relocated from New York to Los Angeles in search of movie stardom, a feat which he achieved thanks to his co-starring role in Think Like A Man, and recently landed a co-hosting gig on E! News, while Diaz is also trying to get her acting career moving. Both hosts were chosen by way of a national search for replacements for Marie “Free” Wright and A.J.Calloway, the duo that kicked off the series in September of 2000. Over the last decade the likes of Kanye WestRihanna,  Drake2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and more have all graced the colorful coaches to talk up their new projects.

The show was also the last live public appearance made by singer Aaliyah days before she tragically died in a plane crash.

UPDATE: The official 106 & Park Twitter account tweeted the following message: “Fam, Don’t believe the hype! We aren’t going anywhere! We ARE planning a farewell to @TerrenceJ & @rocsidiaz tho. #New106 hosts Oct. 1 6P/5c.”

YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHO’S GETTING KICKED OFF “LOVE & HIP HOP”

(BlackMediaScoop) Rasheeda Buckner and Momma Dee of hit show “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” are reportedly close to getting axed from season two by VH1 network executives, according to reports.

Why? Fans say rapper Rasheeda is “boring” and they say Momma Dee is just way over the top. The criticisms have prompted VH1 executives to reconsider inviting the pair back for another season. “[Rasheeda] doesn’t seem to fit in. There’s not enough excitement in her life … she’s too boring,” an inside source said.

For the balance of the season, Rasheeda was unable to hold viewer interest in her marriage to her manager Kirk and their decade-long struggle to bust Rasheeda into the rap mainstream.

More than some have speculated that Rasheeda used the drama she created with Kimberly “K. Michelle” Pate — questioning K. Michelle’s account of abuse by Memphitz — to draw fan interest in her that her business-music career could not.

Momma Dee (seen above), the mother of Atlanta-based rapper Lil Scrappy, “is renowned for her overbearing and exaggerated personality, some claim prompted widespread criticism throughout the season. Momma Dee is interesting, but she’s a little too much. The show took a lot of [heat] about the way they depicted black women … Momma Dee was one of the reasons that people were complaining,” the source said.

What do you think? Will ratings drop without these two women?

Michael Clarke Duncan dead at 54: ‘The Green Mile’ actor dies nearly two months after suffering heart attack.

Michael Clarke Duncan died Monday morning in a Los Angeles hospital, says his fiancee.

LOS ANGELES — Michael Clarke Duncan, the hulking, prolific character actor whose dozens of films included an Oscar-nominated performance as a death row inmate in “The Green Mile” and such other box office hits as “Armageddon,” ”Planet of the Apes” and “Kung Fu Panda,” is dead at age 54.

Clarke died Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for a heart attack, said his fiancée, Reverend Omarosa Manigault, in a statement released by publicist Joy Fehily.

The muscular, 6-foot-4 Duncan, a former bodyguard who turned to acting in his 30s, “suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered,” the statement said. “Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date.”

In the spring of 2012, Clarke had appeared in a video for PETA, the animal rights organization, in which he spoke of how much better he felt since becoming a vegetarian three years earlier.

“I cleared out my refrigerator, about $5,000 worth of meat,” he said. “I’m a lot healthier than I was when I was eating meat.”

Duncan had a handful of minor roles before “The Green Mile” brought him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. The 1999 film, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, starred Tom Hanks as a corrections officer at a penitentiary in the 1930s. Duncan played John Coffey, a convicted murderer with a surprisingly gentle demeanor and extraordinary healing powers.

Duncan’s performance caught on with critics and moviegoers and he quickly became a favorite in Hollywood, appearing in several films a year. He owed some of his good fortune to Bruce Willis, who recommended Duncan for “The Green Mile” after the two appeared together in “Armageddon.” Clarke would work with Willis again in “Breakfast of Champions,” ”The Whole Nine Yards” and “Sin City.”

Tom Hanks (l.) co-starred alongside Michael Clarke Duncan in 1999’s ‘The Green Mile.’

His industrial-sized build was suited for everything from superhero films (“Daredevil”) to comedy (“Talledega Nights,” ”School for Scoundrels”). His gravelly baritone alone was good enough for several animated movies, including, “Kung Fu Panda,” ”Delgo” and “Brother Bear.” Among Clarke’s television credits: “The Apprentice,” ”The Finder,” ”Two and a Half Men” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”

Born in Chicago in 1957, Duncan was raised by a single mother whose resistance to his playing football led to his deciding he wanted to become an actor. But when his mother became ill, he dropped out of college, Alcorn State University, and worked as a ditch digger and bouncer to support her. By his mid-20s, he was in Los Angeles, where he looked for acting parts and became a bodyguard for Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and other stars. The murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G., for whom Duncan had been hired to protect before switching assignments, led him to quit his job and pursue acting full-time.

Early film and television credits, when he was usually cast as a bodyguard or bouncer, included “Bulworth,” ”A Night at the Roxbury” and “The Players Club.”

‘Steel Magnolias’ Lifetime Remake

“Steel Magnolias” is getting a 2012 facelift on Lifetime. The “Steel Magnolias” remake, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, will feature an all black cast including Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Rashad’s daughter, Condola Rashad.

The contemporary remake of the classic film follows six Louisiana women, M’Lynn (Queen Latifah), Ouiser (Woodard), Clairee (Phylicia Rashad), Truvy (Scott), Annelle (Oduye) and Shelby (Condola Rashad), as they go through life together. Like the 1989 flick, M’Lynn’s daughter will be diabetic and pregnant.

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger,” M’Lynn says in the trailer below.

“The caliber of talent associated with this film is astounding and falls in line with our strategy to make Lifetime a first stop for the industry’s best both in front of and behind the camera,” Nancy Dubuc, president and general manager of Lifetime Entertainment, said in a statement. “Queen Latifah, Phylicia, Alfre, Jill, Adepero and Condola are some of the most celebrated women in music, film, television and stage — and we could not be more thrilled and honored for them to bring Robert Harling’s poignant story about the strength of women to a whole new generation.”
